Conley Group was contracted by Aramark Services Company to design a replacement roof for the Clifton Robinson Tower at Baylor University. Aramark has grown to trust Conley Group from experience on other roofing projects at facilities they manage. The Robinson Tower job proved to be a challenge for several reasons. First, it is an eight story roof with a Penthouse dividing the roof into sections. Access from one section to another can only be accomplished through the Penthouse while on the roof top level. Second, the top floor of Robinson Tower is occupied by the Chancellor of Baylor University, the Vice Chancellor and the primary administrative staff for the University. Third, a tremendous amount of roof top equipment, including chillers, communication cable boxes, satellite dishes, and security monitoring stations are present.
Finally, this building sits surrounded by the Brazos River and Interstate 35 creating an extremely high wind up lift at the Roof Level. Conley designed a roof system that was durable for the roof access, reinforced and attached to handle the wind uplift with details to flash all the unusual equipment. Only pre-qualified contractors were allowed to bid on the high profile project.
Conley Group’s design documents and drawings rigidly defined project scope and phasing tasks to minimize the potential for impact to facility operations.
