Award-Winning Historical Restoration
A look back at our award-winning restoration of the Tenison Memorial Gates, circa 1924. This twin structure serves as the welcome portal to a City of Dallas golf course. Conley Group was awarded the 2005 Preservation Achievement Award by Preservation Dallas for its restoration work on the Tenison Memorial Gates. The award was given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the preservation and revitalization of Dallas’ architectural and cultural resources.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Tenison Memorial Gates are brick masonry and pre-cast concrete structures constructed circa 1924. The Tenison Gates consist of twin structures on either side of the entry to a City of Dallas, Texas golf course. The mirror image structures consist of a brick masonry framework on a concrete slab foundation. Pre-cast concrete columns and panels are richly clad with intricate pre-cast ornamentation in the form of cast pilasters, column capitals, molding curved balustrades and finials. Over the years, atmospheric soiling, dirt accumulation, mortar deterioration and pre-cast degradation have left the structures in poor condition.
Pre-cast components exhibit cracking, spalling, discoloration and oxidation of exposed steel reinforcing bars. Panel misalignment and surface wear indicated water damage and the need for waterproofing restoration. Design elements included restoration/replacement of all decorative elements, as well as electrical services restoration and replacement of missing ornament light fixtures/assemblies.
